Kicking off the year a wee bit late, but we plan to catch up with a weekly wine.
However, for March 1, we have a special tasting note…
Though we have spent the last 4-plus years stateside, we do make it back from time to time to Portugal. But the selection of good Portuguese values found on these shores continues to expand. And we were delighted to pick up this 2020 Riserva from Quinta das Carvalhas. Based in the DOC Douro, we expect a solid field blend of vinhas tintas, including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinto Roriz. In this version, the trio delivers blackberry leaf and leather on the nose, followed by mellow black fruits and moderate to strong tannins on the palate. Enjoy with some impossible beef spaghetti bolognese as we just did…
